Hip hinge
Form cues
- Soften knees and send hips back.
- Keep chest long without overextending.
- Press through the whole foot to stand.
Common mistakes
- Turning the hinge into a deep squat.
- Rounding to reach lower.
- Leaning back at the top.
Beginner adjustment
Regression: practice with hands sliding down the thighs or a dowel along the back. Progression: hold a light dumbbell or banded good morning.
